SQAS: A STANDARD ASSESSMENT FOR CHEMICAL TRANSPORT

SQAS: A STANDARD ASSESSMENT FOR CHEMICAL TRANSPORT

The chemical industry has very strict rules when it comes to production, warehousing, handling and transportation. Typically, transport (and sometimes storage) is outsourced. To be sure that regulations are followed strictly outside of the factory, most chemical companies exclusively want to work with SQAS-assessed companies.

Specific demands and requirements

CEFIC (European Chemical Industry Council) has developed the SQAS (Safety and Quality Assessment Systems) quality standard. It is a standard for chemical goods to be handled in a safe, high quality and environmentally correct manner. The goal is to see whether a service provider meets the requirements.

The SQAS standard has different forms. There is a separate version for road transport, intermodal transport, tank cleaning and warehouses. Each category has his own questionnaire, in which all specific demands and requirements are noted.

Evaluation

Each 3 years an audit, performed by an external company will take place. The SQAS-assessment will only result in a detailed report with facts and figures and not in a certificate. Since 2007, we are SQAS- assessed as well.
